1. Sarah Fillier — Olympic Gold Medal

Hometown: Georgetown, Ontario
Major achievement: 2022 Olympic Gold Medal
Sarah Fillier made her Olympic debut at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, helping Canada win the gold medal. She scored eight goals during the tournament. She returned to the Olympics in 2026 and won a silver medal with Canada. Fillier has also won five IIHF Women’s World Championship medals, including three gold medals.

2. Robert “Golden Boy” Goldham — Five Stanley Cups

1910 – Sir Donald Mann, Lacrosse
Acton-born Sir Donald Mann donated the Mann Cup, which became the championship trophy for Canadian senior men’s lacrosse and remains one of Canada’s most important lacrosse trophies.
1936 – Georgetown Little NHL, Hockey
Georgetown became the home of the Little NHL, establishing a lasting tradition of minor hockey and earning the community the nickname “Home of the Little NHL.”

1942–1955 – Bob Goldham, Hockey
Georgetown-born Bob Goldham won an extraordinary five Stanley Cups during his NHL career—two with the Toronto Maple Leafs and three with the Detroit Red Wings.
1964 – Jan Popiel, Hockey
Georgetown’s Jan Popiel was selected 10th overall in the NHL Draft, beginning a professional career that included both the NHL and WHA.

2000 – Trevor Ritchie, Horse Racing
One of Halton Hills’ most remarkable sporting achievements came when Trevor Ritchie drove Yankee Paco to victory in the Hambletonian. It was the first time a Canadian-bred horse had won the prestigious race.

2001–2019 – Sandy Chapman, Lacrosse
Acton’s Sandy Chapman became one of the most successful professional lacrosse players connected with Halton Hills. He won five National Lacrosse League championships and four Mann Cups and was recognized as one of the league’s outstanding defensive players.
2015 – Daryl Veltman, Lacrosse
Georgetown’s Daryl Veltman won the Mann Cup and had previously been selected first overall in the 2008 NLL Draft.
Modern International Success
2022 – Sarah Fillier, Hockey
Georgetown’s Sarah Fillier reached the highest level of international sport by winning Olympic gold with Team Canada at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
