Don’t litter! How long does it take for plastics to decompose in nature?

Those who leave garbage – like glass, plastic bottles, PVC packaging, cans – in nature are either incredibly lazy or stupid. Or both.

They actively decide that their momentary laziness is worth more than:

  • animals getting their guts sliced open by broken glass or hard plastics
  • birds and fish slowly choking on plastic fragments
  • soil and water being poisoned for decades
  • other human beings having to look at and step over their disgusting mess

If you go for a hike in any of the conservation areas around Halton Hills, you will find the trails littered with all kinds of garbage AND poop bags!
This one is beyond my understanding — why would anyone pick up after their dog, wrap in a plastic bag and leave the bag on the path or throw it on tree??
You’re better off letting your dog do their business, take a stick and kick it out of the path so someone doesn’t step into the pile, and nature will be grateful for the nutrients.

There is no excuse for this littering the woods and conservation areas.

If you can’t bring the coffee cup, water bottle, cigarette pack back from your walk in the woods, don’t bring it in.
You WILL survive those 40 minutes without coffee or water!
