Glen Williams. One of the oldest villages in Halton Hills

Glen Williams, a picturesque hamlet nestled in the Credit River valley of Halton Hills, proudly marked its 200th anniversary on Saturday, September 27, 2025, with a day full of celebration, reflection, and community pride. Residents and visitors alike gathered to honour the rich heritage of this historic village with an array of festivities ranging from historical re-enactments to military displays and family-friendly games.

The bicentennial event was a vibrant blend of past and present. One of the highlights of the celebration was a series of historical re-enactments portraying scenes from the village’s early 19th-century life. The performances provided a glimpse into what life might have looked like when Charles Williams, the village’s namesake, helped establish the settlement in 1825.

The event also featured a special appearance by the Lucy Maud Montgomery Norval group, who honoured the famed author’s connection to Glen Williams. Best known for Anne of Green Gables, Montgomery once lived in nearby Norval and frequently participated in village life. She was known to organize Old Thyme Nights at the Glen Williams Town Hall—lively community events that brought neighbours together with music, storytelling, and laughter. The group’s presence at the bicentennial celebration was a fitting tribute to her legacy and the literary and cultural heritage she helped cultivate in the area.

The Credit Valley Shriners and Collectors Source provided military display that paid tribute not only to Canada’s military history but also to the contributions of Glen Williams residents who served in past conflicts.

Local artists opened their studios to visitors, and  historical walking tours offered insights into the heritage buildings and landmarks that still stand in the village.

With 200 years behind it and a strong sense of community guiding its way forward, Glen Williams remains a shining example of small-town heritage, resilience, and charm.
