News in Georgetown

Rick-Bonnette-60Farewell to AFGHANISTAN!  Our mission is over.  We lost 157 of our brave soldiers and many other wounded.  As a Canadian, we should all be very proud of our troops.  This really hits home since our own Lorne Scott’s had nine soldiers serve in Afghanistan.  I’d like to also congratulate the Lorne Scott’s who are celebrating their 145th Anniversary this year.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make Canada Day celebrations a huge success in Acton and Georgetown.  Congratulations to Dan Hall, Glen Williams 2011 Citizen of the Year.

If you have little ones, why not bring them to one Halton Hills’s three splash pads to cool down!  You can cool down at:  Gellert Community Centre, Dominion Seed Park in Georgetown and the Superior Glove splash pad located in Prospect Park, Acton.

****
Speaking of cooling down, if you have a small tree on Town property in the front of your house, please give them a drink of water.

Former Acton resident Roz Weston of Entertainment Tonight and of the Roz and Mocha fame on 92.5 Kiss FM has been doing his share of promoting Acton.  We have been having some fun on the radio of late.

Food banks are often forgotten in the summer and usually remembered only at Christmas time.  The summer is equally as important to give them your support.  Please contact your local food bank to see what items they are in need of.

Acton Foodshare (519-853-0457) is located at 352 Queen Street, Unit 6 (behind M&M's).  They are open Tuesday mornings between 8:30AM and 12:30PM.

The Georgetown Food Bank (905-873-3368) is located at 55 Sinclair Ave., Suite 12.  They are open Wednesday & Saturdays 8:30AM until 12:00 PM.

Now that the warmer weather is here, please be cautious of walking in the woods.   Those nasty ticks can spread Lyme disease.  There are more and more cases every year.  If you want further information on Lyme disease, please visit the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation at http://www.canlyme.com.

Congratulations to these Grand Openings:
