Rick-Bonnette-60Earth HourTM is fast approaching.  On Saturday, March 26, 2011 between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, Earth Hour will be celebrated around the world.  Last year, Halton Hills achieved an energy savings of about 7%. This reduction translated into a savings of 4,060 kWh of electricity or enough to power approximately 3,300 homes for one hour! Since 2008, we have saved enough energy through Earth hour to power about 15 000 homes for an hour!  Here are some tips to help make Earth Hour once again a success:  Turn off unnecessary lights, without compromising safety and security.  Change your light bulbs to efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs.  Turn down the thermostat.  Avoid operating major appliances during Earth Hour.   Enjoy a candlelit dinner with family and friends.

The Town of Halton Hills 401-407 Gateway Business Park is strategically located along the busiest traffic corridor in Canada.  Over 6 million people are within an hour’s drive of the Halton Hills location.  Based on this location, we have two large companies that have recently announced their intention to build right here in Halton Hills.

Calloway REIT have been working with Town staff on a site plan to build a 500,000 sq foot “high end” outlet mall on the south east corner of Trafalgar Road and Steeles Avenue.  This will be about a 200 million dollars investment in our Town.

Now a second, RioCan REIT announced they have partnered with Tanger Factory Outlet Centres to conditionally purchase a 35 acre site along the corridor as well.  This site is at James Snow Parkway and Steeles Avenue.

Needless to say, these recent turn of events have been very positive.  A large outlet mall will be a big tourist attraction.  In addition, there will be a lot of jobs and assessment for our Town.  We are keeping our fingers crossed.
