Living in a small town has its charm but can is not always as safe as one might think. Teenage years can be pretty boring. No cinema, no outdoor pool in the summer, just parks, parking lots, and acres of fields and old mill ruins. Many good kids go down that slippery slope when they don’t get a proper guidance at the right time. And not many parents have that picture-perfect relationship with their kids that they can talk about anything and everything. Youth Centres employ educated professionals who offer guidance and listening ear for youth and play an important role is shaping their future. Off The Wall (Acton) and Open Door (Georgetown) Youth Centres fate was in jeopardy after it was announced that $75,000 by The Ontario Trillium Foundation will no longer be available. Now, the Region of Halton Hills has stepped up and approved $60,000 for 2009 and $75,000 for 2010 for Links2Care, organization running the youth centres. The funds will come from a newly established Community Investment Fund. The Halton Hills Council approved $640,000 in total to help community organizations such as Friendly Visitor Program, Social Opportunities, Activities and Relationship Program, First Mentors Program, Youth Overcoming Depression and Anxiety Program and more. Links2Care still need $25,000 to completely cover their expenses, but this can be raised through fundraising efforts. So, have your hearts open to Halton youth, after all, they will be deciding on your future. If you wish to make a donation for Youth Centres, please contact Links2Care at 905-873-6502.
