Animal cruelty is more horrible than all the horrors of the war because we close our eyes and pretend it does not happen, we don’t do it. Earthlings is the award-winning documentary that shows what really happens behind the gates of slaughterhouses and animal shelters. Would it be different if their walls were made of glass and we saw for our own eyes how are steak, lean chicken and succulent pork chop is made? You bet. Earthlings does not solve any problems, it is simply a narrative (Joaquin Phoenix) of pictures that make us think an re-evaluate. Does the man who smashes pigs with a hammer turn into a loving father when he comes home? So where is that humanity and respect so proclaimed in every constitution? How come we disapprove of Holocaust, Ku-Klux-Klan, slavery and not animal cruelty? Because we would have to admit our own wrongdoings. Earthlings is “the Vegan maker” for its real footage of animal shelters, pet stores, puppy mills, factory farms, slaughterhouses, the leather and fur trades, sporting events, circuses and research labs. Initially ignored by distributors, today Earthlings is considered the definitive animal rights film by organizations around the world. It started in 1999, when the writer/producer/director Shaun Monson worked on a series about spaying and neutering pets in animal shelters around Los Angeles. Most of the scenes were shot live so it was that much difficult to make the footage. The film is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix and features music Moby. Earthlings is considered the definitive animal rights film by organizations around the world. Nation Earth was established to produce documentary films on socially urgent issues. Earthlings is the first part of a documentary trilogy. The second installment, UNITY, will explore the force of consciousness found in nature, animals and humankind and is scheduled to be completed in 2009.
